J.D. Power has announced the results of its 2020 Best Resale Value Awards and this year the best-performing vehicle overall is the GMC Sierra 3500.

J.D. Power has announced the results of its 2020 Best Resale Value Awards and this year Toyota and Honda lead the industry with five awards each. The best-performing vehicle overall is the GMC Sierra 3500.

When breaking down each segment individually, the vehicles with the best resale values are:

Pickup Trucks:

  • Midsize Pickup: Toyota Tacoma
  • Large Light-Duty Pickup: Toyota Tundra
  • Large Heavy-Duty Pickup: GMC Sierra 3500

SUVs:

  • Small SUV: Honda HR-V
  • Compact SUV: Jeep Wrangler
  • Midsize SUV: Toyota 4Runner
  • Large SUV: Chevrolet Tahoe

Cars 

  • Small Car: Honda Fit
  • Compact Car: Honda Civic
  • Midsize Car: Honda Accord
  • Large Car: Dodge Charger
  • Sporty Car: Toyota 86
  • Midsize Sporty Car: Dodge Challenger

Luxury Cars

  • Small Premium Car: Mercedes-Benz B-Class
  • Compact Premium Car: Infiniti Q60
  • Midsize Premium Car: Lexus GS
  • Large Premium Car: Genesis G90
  • Compact Premium Sporty Car: Porsche Cayman

“Our transaction database shows which models have the lowest depreciation costs, hence providing consumers with a key component in the total cost of ownership of the vehicle they plan to purchase or sell,” said Jonathan Banks, vice president and general manager of vehicle valuations at J.D. Power. 

For the 2020 program, J.D. Power assessed 270 models from the 2017 model year, examining 592,000 vehicle sales transactions between May and September of 2020, according to the firm. J.D. Power bases the awards on used vehicle wholesale prices, divided by the original purchase price.
