The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Police Department's Traffic Unit has signed on to take delivery of a Tesla Model Y to be used as a squad car assigned to its Traffic Unit.

The car will be a low profile marked car with subdued graphics and fully lighted, according to the department's announcement on Facebook.

Although the department did not specify the initial purchase price, it did note it is a little higher than a comparable squad car. However, the department expects that it will be cheaper to operate and looks to have the same or greater service life than a traditional gasoline-powered police car over the long term.

102.3 KRMG reported the department is currently testing out a loaner model before taking delivery of the new squad car.
