NIO ES8 Receives 5-Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating

NIO

Last week, the NIO ES8 garnered a five-star safety rating, the highest safety award from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP), and Nio will soon begin delivering the ES8 in Norway.

In 2020, the Euro NCAP protocols were updated to include frontal impact with a mobile progressive deformable barrier (MPDB); driver monitoring; occupant protection in the far-side impact; further test scenarios for Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB); rescue and extrication; and raised the speed of mobile side barrier to 60 kmh (37.2 mph) in the side impact test. The new protocols constitute a stricter requirement for a vehicle’s active and passive safety.

NIO’s ES8 comes standard with a high-strength, all-aluminum body and active safety features, supporting its 5-star rating from Euro NCAP. In the frontal offset impact test, the passenger compartment remained stable and dummy readings showed sound protection of the knees and femurs of both passenger and front seat passengers. The ES8 also provided good protection to all critical body areas of the 6- and 10-year-old crash test dummies in the frontal-offset impact test and the side barrier impact test. The AEB system of the ES8 achieved good performance in protecting vulnerable road users and car-to-car tests. Considering these notable results as well as others in the total vehicle assessment, the NIO ES8 earned a 92% score in the Safety Assist category under the stringent new protocols.
