The first 999 electric vehicles (EVs) from Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast entered the U.S. this week aboard the Silver Queen Ocean vessel, arriving at the Port of Benicia in northern California.

Certified to sell cars in the U.S., VinFast will begin delivering the VF 8 City Edition models, mid-size SUVs, by year’s end.

With all the features of the standard VF 8, the City Edition model offers Advanced Driver Assistance System and Smart Services, its technology updated regularly over the air. Other features include a 10-year vehicle warranty, 10-year battery warranty (unlimited mileage), and 24/7 emergency roadside assistance during the warranty period.

Designed for regular daily commuters, the VF 8 City Edition’s battery range has been recently certified by EPA at 179 miles for the Eco and Plus models. A planned software update is expected to improve the range early year.

“Today marks a very important milestone for VinFast. Early this year in Las Vegas, we announced our lineup of all-electric SUVs and made a bold promise to deliver them to the market by the end of 2022,” said Le Thi Thu Thuy, VinFast Singapore CEO.

VinFast – a member of VinGroup – was established in 2017. The company owns an automotive manufacturing complex with scalability that boasts up to 90% automation in Hai Phong, Vietnam.
