The City of Pittsburgh is deploying telematics, route optimization, and navigation services for approximately 400 vehicles. The city is deploying Magellan and Quetica technology on its snow removal and de-icing fleet, Magellan announced.

After public complaints over road conditions last winter, the city sought industry proposals for a better snow removal and deicing solution. Quetica and Magellan’s solution aims to help the city reduce salt spreading by 33% and maintain the same level of road de-icing, according to estimates shared by the Department of Innovation and Performance. Pittsburgh spends about $2.2 million a year on road salt, according to the department.
